Financial Workshop

STIKK attended the Financial Workshop “Surviving the EC Audit” on September 10th, 2013 in Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy in Belgrade, Serbia organized by Wbc-inco.net (Co-ordination of research policies with the western Balkan countries). The discussion of the workshop was about the preparation of financial records in case of audit of EU funded projects under FP7 programme.

Matchmaking with Norwegian companies

As a part of “Growth Program” the second matchmaking event took place this year, whereas Norwegian companies interested for outsourcing visited Kosovo. This time a company from Norway “Working Waves” represented by Mr. Arild Bjørn-Larsen was presented to Kosovar companies, Making Waves is a company specialized on offering combined services in Design and Technology. During the meetings with Kosovar companies, cooperation opportunities were presented and exporting potential for Scandinavian markets. Mr Arild was very pleased with what he saw at local companies and Kosovo overall. Companies that Mr. Arild visited are: Trokit , InterAdria, Rrota, Cacttus and Komtel PE.

STIKK meets political parties

D4D Institute has organized 4 representation fairs mid-early September between 30 membership associations and 4 leading political parties in Kosovo. The idea of organizing these meetings was to inform political parties about specific issues that membership groups (e.g. farmers, journalists, doctors, etc.) care about. The ultimate purpose is to inspire party leaders to include membership concerns in their party platforms. Strict rules have been applied during the discussion in asking participants to be concise with their requests within a 2 minutes timeline. STIKK at this meeting repeated the request for proceeding the ”Draft law on goods exempt from custom TAX and goods with zero rate of the custom TAX” which thrust due to the refusal by the president office. Another request from STIKK was the lack of support from government on fiscal policies for companies that are engaged on IT exporting services and scaled VAT for ICT products from 16% to 5%. Because time was limited, at the end we requested more serious approach to the IT Sector from government and as a option to create the ministry of ICT.

Software’s subject to customs tax

Based on the request of STIKK members for involvement in the matter of interpretation of the Customs Code concerning imports of Software, Mrs. Vjollca Cavolli met with Mr. Bujar Kelmend and Mr. Lulzim Rafuna from Kosovo Customs. The meeting was focused on the imported Softwares in Kosovo which were not subject to customs duties since 2003 until now. Now in some cases, the software is being subject to customs tax therefore, Mrs. Cavolli explained that “License / Product Key” or “Software License” in most cases are part of the software and serve to activate Online softwares on the Internet or “Software License” may be delivered in electronic form (e-mail) without going through any customs point and as such it cannot be treated differently from the License and Software License Key that companies can send the printed Licence in attached to the invoice that can pass through customs points. Through this meeting STIKK requested that “License / Product Key” or “Software License” to be treated as part of the software and not to be taxed.

2nd edition of KosICT Regional Conference

The second edition of the regional KosICT Conference organized by STIKK in Pristina, Kosovo, again gathered local and regional speakers to talk around Digital Transformation, Mobile Solutions and the Future of Near-shoring/Outsourcing.With the dedication to help out the long-term-growth of the ICT Industry in Kosovo, STIKK managed again to gather key players from the country and experienced leaders, entrepreneurs and managers from companies in Norway, Germany or Bulgaria, to come and share their experience on the importance of digital transformation and adaption, the mobile trends of today and the mistakes to avoid in outsourcing. Opening remarks by Shkumbin Brestovci, Chairman of the Board of STIKK, representatives from the Ministry of Economic Development of Kosovo, the Ambassador of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Prishtina and Vjollca Çavolli, Executive Director of STIKK put emphasizes on the important role of the whole industry on working together and the role of the association in representing and facilitating the communication between Government, Industry and Academia.

Presentations by Alexander Ammer, Anders Indset and Georgy Buchokov, focused on the role of how digital has made changes in different areas of different industries, may it be a mine factory in Africa or a video trend by Ylvis, which is booming with views on YouTube. “Failure is good, you need to fail to be successful!” was an advice given by Anders Indset, as he was focusing his presentation of the role of lessons learned from failures. On the topic of the Future of Nearshoring/Outsourcing, Bernhard Janischowsky had an interesting talk as well on his experience with large scale IT projects and international clients.Uranik Begu, Executive Director of ICK, had a presentation as well talking about what has been done in this direction by ICK itself on supporting their companies, whereas ZAG Apps showed a bunch of impressive international clients with which they are working on nowadays, while Solaborate, the social network for IT professionals continued to tell their story of further development and a growing user-base. The last part consisted on the focus of mobile solutions, where the audience had the pleasure to hear talks by Arild Bjord Larsen, director of marketing and development at Making Waves, during which he spoke about the importance of having mobile presence as a business and focusing on quality on products and services delivered.

“We are 5 million people living inNorway, and we consider ourselves a small market. Half the size of London” said Larsen, while focusing on the importance of aiming big and having your web optimized for mobile. Karl-J Wack had a presentation on the challenges of mobile enterprise solutions today and how the company with which he is involved in lets-dev, is dealing with them by delivering solutions for enterprise clients. The two other speeches where again two startups from the ICK Incubator, XIIIK and Appsix,sharing their part of what happens if you launch to a new market with no experience but a lot of passion, and how to choose the right developing team for your application.

The conference featured over 130 participants, while it was led and moderated by Villu Arak, speaker and entrepreneur from Estonia, who moderated the conference last year as well. “Quality Design of CBC Grant Projects” Training

STIKK attended the Training “Quality Design of CBC Grant Projects” on September 23rd, 2013 in Peja. This training was organized by TA2CBCKosovo (A project implemented by ESEP Ltd, An EU funded project managed by the European Union Office in Kosovo). The discussion of the training was about the future projects in cross-border cooperation between Kosovo and Montenegro funded by the EU.
